Anatomy of Anxiety & Depression and Treatment Approaches

This seminar will describe the make-up of anxiety and how our body responds to potential threats. Often time, chronic anxiety or unresolved stressors lead to depression. Depressive cycles, most effective treatment modalities, and list of medications will also be discussed. 

Objectives:

- Recognize and identify the anatomy of anxiety and the physiological, emotional, and psychological changes that take place in their body. 

- Identify common primary emotions, understand and become self-aware how these emotions triggers their anxiety. 

- Be able to identify, and pause to become aware of personal choices that can reduce high levels of anxiety. 

Dean Aslinia, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, is the program chair for the CACREP Accredited Fully Face-to-Face Community Mental Health Counseling Program of the University of Phoenix. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor in the State of Texas as well as a National Certified Counselor. Dr. Dean's educational background includes a bachelors and first masters in Psychology and a second masters and doctorate in Counseling. His Ph.D. specialization was in marriage and family counseling and after completing his degree and several years of clinical work, pursued his American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and became a AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. He has a combined 25 years of clinical counseling, graduate counseling teaching, and research experience. He has being a passionate advocate for the counseling profession and for the past decade has served on the board of directors of the Texas Counseling Association and the North Dallas Mental Health Authority. He is also the past president of the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, and continues to advocate for greater mental health access for all Americans. Dean is currently President Elect of Arizona Counselors Association.
